For it's glorious relaunch of the regular live music program, we are bringing something very special to you featuring Singapore's very finest, Jazz pianist Tan Weixiang and his original music.

Wei III is Weixiang’s maiden recording project, comprising of a series of compositions spanning over 10 years. They represent a summation of Wei’s philosophy towards music and exemplifies his approach to the piano trio format. The mono-recorded LP was recently launched as a feature at the Esplanade only a few weeks ago, and the mind blowing experience is now coming back to much more intimate setting of Club L'Opera.

Wei will be accompanied by 2 of the most sought after young jazz musicians in the scene: John Koh (bass) and Aaron James Lee (drums).

WEI III

TAN WEI XIANG / PIANO :

Weixiang is a latecomer into jazz, starting piano studies at 15 and jazz at 21 when he was in law school. A protege of Thelonius Monk alumni Victor Gaskin, Wei’s musical career has skyrocketed since his first gig at a hotel lounge. In the span of 12 years, he has performed with numerous international mainstream jazz icons, Grammy award winners and world music giants, and has toured extensively around the world. Wei was named as a “New Yorker of the Week” by NY1 station in the fall of 2008 for his work at churches for the homeless, as part of the Ouros Markovich Music Ministry.Wei has taught as an adjunct professor in New York University, and is currently a full-time lecturer of music at Lasalle College of the Arts.





JOHN KOH / BASS :

John Koh, 19, is a jazz double bassist who was recently awarded a scholarship from Berklee College of Music. Having been inspired by Ray Brown on Oscar Peterson’s album “We Get Requests” at the age of 13, he picked up the double bass the following year, joining the school’s orchestra. He has performed at the ChildAid 2015 concert alongside Singapore’s “King of Swing”, Jeremy Monteiro. He has also gone on to perform with names like Andrew Lim, Takahashi Yusei, Aaron James Lee, Sebastian Sibbald, Nakayama Takumi, and Bijan Taghavi. He aspires to be part of the New York jazz scene after completing his studies.



AARON JAMES LEE / DRUMS :

Aaron James Lee is a drummer, composer and educator from Singapore. He has been playing drums professionally from 2008, playing with bands such as the Steve McQueens and backing solo artistes. Turning 21 years old in 2016, he has since been making his mark both internationally andlocally in the jazz and R&B scene.
